Surprise Trip!

All summer I have been telling Zac how much I wish we could go on vacation. I wanted a trip away from our routine and have some time to spend with just Zac and Kennady without any distractions. Since we have been applying to medical school this summer, I didn't think we would be able to afford to go on a trip, despite how desperately I wanted to go.
One Friday, when I got home from work at noon, Zac had all our bags packed and ready. He said, "Get in the car! We're going on a trip!" I was shocked! I wasn't expecting going on a trip at all. I was so excited though! I've always wanted to be surprised with a trip where I didn't have to worry about hotel reservations or packing..hate that. Zac is the most wonderful husband in the world and did it all! And he did a great job! He remembered EVERYTHING! He got all the stuff I use for my hair, my makeup, clothes, everything for Kennady. He is one incredible guy! He even made a little puzzle/riddle for me to figure out where we were going...Yellowstone!! We had talked about maybe going to Yellowstone earlier this summer because it's been years since we visited. We had a blast! We spent the first day driving. Kennady did great until the last hour or so and then she lost it...so I climbed in the back and started entertaining her..

Kennady discovered her bottom lip this trip - her cute face cracked me up!
Our first stop was in West Yellowstone. We stopped for dinner at Geyser Grill - seemed very fitting. It was yummy...Kennady got to try green beans for the first time..not so yummy. :/

We stayed in Big Sky, Montana (I keep calling it Blue Sky or Blue Water, Montana..I can't remember what it's called..good thing I have Zac to keep me on track!) It was a cute little hotel. We went swimming when we got there to try to wear Kennady out.

It worked! When I laid her down for bed, she looked up at me and smiled and then rolled onto her tummy and went right to sleep. Such a good little girl!

Here is the view from our hotel. SO gorgeous! We spent a lot of this trip just driving and looking at the scenery. It was so beautiful and so relaxing.
The next morning we got some breakfast and then hit the road again.

On our way into the park we saw a Grizzly bear on the side of the road - it was a little ways off so I didn't get a picture - but it was so cool! Once we got into the park, we stopped at the geysers and hot spots.

Here's Zac next to the paint pools.

Kennady was not thrilled with the sulfur-scented wind blowing at us.
I breastfed Kennady in the car before we made our way to Old Faithful because it wasn't windy in the car and I thought it'd be best if I didn't flash anyone. Our windows are tinted so you really have to work hard to see anything in the car. While I was feeding her, this middle-age lady came right up and looked in the window right at me and Kennady! I was like, "Get out of here lady!" It was a little strange. After a few more minutes of driving we made it to Old Faithful. We watched it go off and took the boardwalk around to the other geysers.

We waited about 15 minutes for Old Faithful to go off. Some people got impatient and started leaving. At one point, it sputtered and shot a little bit of water into the air. Some people clapped and cheered and then left! I turned to Zac and said, "It's bigger than that, isn't it?"
It was!

Zac and a sleeping Kennady on the boardwalk!

Such a happy girl after her nice long nap!

We mad it all the way to Morning Glory pool, which was beautiful and definitely worth the long, hot walk!

On our way back to the visitors center, Kennady decided she had had enough of her stroller and wanted to walk. Zac was such a good dad to carry her all the way back!
We finished our trip by visiting with our good friends, the Andersons, who were camping in Yellowstone that week! It was so fun to see them - especially because we had been trying to get together and do something the previous week. Kind of funny we had to go to Yellowstone to get together! We drove to Idaho Falls and spent the night then got up in the morning and drove home. The drive home was pretty eventful! Kennady hadn't pooped for a couple days so I knew she would be having a majorly full diaper sometime that day. I warned Zac that if we heard her poop we needed to start right away to change her cause I was worried we'd have a blow-out on our hands. 20 miles away from Tremonton (and anywhere else for that matter!) we heard Kennady filling her diaper. There was no where to stop so we hurried to get to Tremonton. We stopped and pulled her out of the carseat to find poop all over her, her carseat, the carseat base and the seat! Yuck!!
It was quite a trip. I loved every minute of it! Thanks Zac for surprising me! Can't wait for our next one! :)

  1. Well, I'm a little envious of Kennady. I'm 20 years old and I have still NEVER been to Yellowstone. She's.... waht? Six months old and she's been already!?!?! It's so sad. (Thankfully I'm in Taiwan and not her, or else I'd just feel pathetic.)

  2. Zac is pretty amazing! don't know if he'll be able to top this! :) And I'm still very impressed that he packed EVERYTHING you needed AND EVERYTHING Kennady needed! :) Takes an observant guy to do that! :)

Thanks for posting! I haven't had a chance to bug you to see pictures! ... now I don't have to! :)
