Our New Calling

Zac and I have been going to a family ward since we've been married. We had the choice to go to a married student ward but decided we were ready for a family ward because of the things a family ward had to offer: 1) Families with lots of kids that we get to interact with. 2) Older and more experienced people 3) an escape from BYU for at least one day a week and 4) cause we just wanted too!
Our ward has been really great and we have really enjoyed the people we're gotten to know. And we got our first calling last week! We're nursery teachers!! :) Our first day in nursery was today. Overall, I think it went well. Our nursery is big enough that they separate the kids into 3 different rooms: Snack and lesson, music and free play. We reported to nursery today and were assigned the snack and lesson room for the rest of the month. Usually we'll have another couple in the room with us, but today they called in sick, so it was just me and Zac! I think we did fine, except for the fact we didn't know ANY of the kids names. And unfortunately they were too young to tell us their names so it was hard to try to get their attention since we couldn't ask them questions by name. Our supervisor eventually came in and asked us if we needed any help so we asked her who these cute kids were! Things were a little smoother once we could call them by name! We had a lot of fun. It was fun to see Zac interact with the little kids. I think he is going to be a great daddy someday...We also learned a few things:
1) Don't wear clothes you care about...I got bubble liquid all over my skirt today.
2) High heels and nursery do not mix! It was way too hard to run around with them!
3) Only fill the cups halfway with water.
4) NEVER let one kid show and tell her toys when the other kids don't have anything to share. It ended up being a huge fight over princess figurines.
5) We have the best calling. I love being with these precious little ones. I already feel there is so much we can learn from them because they are so pure and so close to our Father in Heaven. It is a blessing to have this calling. We can't wait until next week!! :)

  1. Haha! :) I'm glad it was a fun experience! You guys will be great Nursery leaders! :) (I have to agree though...it's bad enough that you can't wear pants in Nursery, but then add heels and you are DOOMED!!) :) lol Maybe take another pair of shoes JUST FOR NURSERY! (or you could just go in socks/barefoot! The kids don't care!) :)

    Love you!

  2. Totally understand. We were in Nursery in Moscow and had 14 kids, and Carter was just 6 mos old and he was also in there with us. It was CRAZY, chaotic and wonderful. There were days where we'd sit in the corner admist the crying, messes and drink our diet cokes. Yes, INSIDE the church. It was a way of getting through the day. We absolutely LOVED it. I look back with fond memories and still to this day, a couple of the kids that I had in there 2 years ago still call me "Teacher" and I adore it. You'll LOVE it!

  4. Yeah, and you get to have a snack in church! How many people get to say that?! Your wedding picture is SO GORGEOUS! I can't wait to see all of them, get caught up, see you on campus...everything. (Did you hear my news? Can read about it on my blog a few posts ago... am going to BYU to get a degree in chinese. I know it's crazy but feels right! I'll be living in YOUR old room!!) Hope you left it clean for me!! :D I really appreciate your parents letting me stay with them. Ashley and Donny teach the 5-yr-olds in their ward and they have the funniest stories about things that happen there. Happy New Year! Love you!
